personnel receive AFA national awards
WASHINGTON
-- The
Air Force Association kicked off its annual national convention
in Washington D.C. in September with an awards ceremony, honoring
the outstanding achievements of men and women throughout the
United States Air Force, government, academia and the aerospace
industry.
Taking
home the association’s top honors, the Paul W. Meyer Award,
was Maj. (Dr.) J. Scott Calder, 74th Medical Support
Squadron, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The award is presented
for outstanding contributions to Air Force medicine.
“These
types of awards are about taking advantage of being in the
right place at the right time and having good support from
leadership and staff,” said Calder. “I am honored to be selected
among the many physicians doing outstanding work.”
Capt.
Scott F. Sanders, a primary
care optimization clinical nurse with the 62nd Medical Operation
Squadron at McChord AFB, Wash.,earned the highest honor in the
field of nursing, the Juanita Redmond Award.
Sanders
was recognized for outstanding leadership, bravery and professionalism
as a member of a critical care air transport team deployed
to Incirlick AB, Turkey, in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom.
The
Citizen Airman award recipients -- presented to traditional
Air National Guard members who served in the aerospace expeditionary
force, and their employers -- included Maj. Janey B. Worth,
a flight nurse assigned to the 908th Aeromedical
Evacuation Squadron at Maxwell AFB, Ala., and her civilian
employer Managed Access, Inc., a medical staffing and project
management company in Tampa, Fla.
Taking
home the Air National Guard George Bush awards were Capt.
Eric N. Erickson, a physician assistant with the 177th
Medical Group, New Jersey ANG and his employer, the JFK Johnson
Rehabilitating Institute Center for Head Injuries, Edison,
N.J.
The
award presentations were part of the AFA’s celebration of
“Up From Kitty Hawk-the 100th Anniversary of Powered
Flight”.
