Maj.
Prince named case manager of the year
The Case Management
Society of America's National Case Manager of the Year
award was presented to civilian consultant, educator,
and military subject-matter expert, Maj. Melanie Prince. The
award was presented during the CMSA's 14th
annual conference and expo in Nashville.
Each
year, CMSA recognizes members whose case management careers
elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance,
and exemplify merit and distinction. Prince was nominated
by her case manager colleagues as a representative possessing
these characteristics.
A CMSA member since 2000, Maj. Prince is a project manager
for the U.S. Air Force 1st Medical Group at Langley Air Force
Base, VA, as well as a consultant for Maryland's Anne Arundel
County Department of Aging for case and diabetes disease management.
An active member of the National Capital Area Chapter, Prince
served as Vice President in 2003.
Handpicked
to lead Department of Defense efforts to revamp military
case management, Maj. Prince is an influential military leader
deeply committed to bringing case management to the forefront
of military leadership. An enthusiastic and intellectually
challenging teaching style has made her a sought-after instructor
in various venues, including workshops, seminars, and structured
courses at the state and national level. According to
her award citation, Maj. Prince's legacy is her remarkable
gift of visionary communication that has resulted in a fusion
of civilian and military case management practice for a world-class
military healthcare delivery system in all 50 states.

Maj.
Durning receives new ACP award
Maj.
(Dr.) Steve Durning was recently selected to receive one of
the most prestigious awards offered by the American College
of Physicians, the Herbert S. Waxman award.
The
new award is designed to provide national recognition to an
outstanding medical educator.
Dr.
Durning is a general internist currently assigned to the Uniformed
Services University of the Health Sciences as an associate
professor of medicine. Dr. Durning directs the Introduction
to Clinical Reasoning Course for second-year medical students
and developed a variety of innovative measures that significantly
improved medical student performance on both standardized
tests and clinical practicums.
According
to the citation, as the inaugural awardee, Dr. Durning's accomplishments
in the realm of medical education reflects great credit on
the Air Force Medical Service and on military medicine overall.
Dr. Durning will receive his award during a special ceremony
at the ACP's next annual session, April 13-17, 2005.
P2R2
Virtual Analyst website receives national recognition
The
Air Force Medical Service's website, "P2R2 Virtual Analyst",
recently won the 2004 World Wide Web Health Award, Bronze.
The
WWWH awards are organized by the Health Information Resource
Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information
programs and materials. The web-based health awards are an
extension of the HIRC's 11-year old National Health Information
Awards, the largest program of its kind in the United States.
There were more than 1,100 entries in the 2004 National Health
Information Awards from hundreds of organizations.
The
purpose of the awards provided by the organization is to promote
great websites for all types of healthcare organizations --
including both consumer-used and -related, and internal/professional-use
websites.
According
to its web site, the WWWH awards is a program that recognizes
the best health-related web sites for consumers and professionals.
The program is held twice a year with the goal of providing
a "seal of quality" for electronic health information.
In addition to winning the award, the virtual analyst website
is permitted to use the awards program winner's logo on their
web sites and in their promotional materials.
