The primary purpose of the psychological portion of medical flight screening is to establish baseline psychological testing data for each new USAF pilot. This baseline data is used as part of comprehensive medical examinations of aviators who sustain head injury in order to make return to flying recommendations. With this data, psychologists can make pre- and post-injury comparisons. Each pilot candidate must take a neuropsychological screening battery and an aptitude test. No one is eliminated from training based on the results of these tests.

The neuropsychological screening battery uses both visual and
auditory information to evaluate
brain functioning.

All psychological tests are administered using computers in a
17-station psychological testing laboratory.

All FC I, UAS, and MFS examinees are required to take the neuropsychological screening battery.
The Neuropsychological results are used for baseline data only, the results will not be made available during your FC I, UAS or MFS examination. Once you have completed UPT you will have the option to discuss your results with the neuropsychological provider. This can be done by contacting the Neuropsychology Branch at (210) 536-6828
